“explain how businesses adapt to international competition and to the conditions found in international markets”

Linked to:

This is a natural extension of E7: how business are affected by international competition. However, there are two parts to this criteria:

  • how a business copes with international competition
  • how a busines copes with international markets

The two are slightly different: on the one hand, coping with foreign businesses; on the other hand, coping with different customer needs, retail methods, barriers to trade and so on.

Assistance

A tough criteria! However, to make sense of it, it’s best to take the approach that you are being asked the following question:

“What does it take for a business to be successful in the global economy?”

Looked at this way, it’s not disimilar to criteria C2 and C3, but with an emphasis on international markets. You need to look at case studies of transnational (multinational) companies, focussing on the problems they’ve faced and what’s made them successful.
