C Criteria

“explain how businesses are affected by the type(s) of market within which they operate”

This is an extension of criteria E1 and E2. It is asking you to explain the consequences for a business of operating in a particular market (e.g. car parts market).

Assistance

This is a criteria asking you to analyse the impact of selling in a particular market. You need to be able to look at the information given to you (about the market and the business) and put together a logical explanation as to why this market would be either a great one to work in or would be difficult to work in i.e. to “explain how businesses are affected....”

Only practice will help here - you need to get used to the idea of looking at a market and sizing up the pros and cons of setting up a business in that market. Most newspaper reports on business performance will make reference to the market the business is in and will point out what’s helped or hindered the business.
